TAMPA- A massive search ended today when rescue workers were unable to find the body of Lois Einhorn, a hiker missing since Friday, September 20, 1990. Einhorn, 28, was last seen on Highway 3, outside of the Tampa State Park entrance.Ranger Kinsey Shilling said Einhorn was missing for over a year.Searchers in the copter thought they saw her standing near the bottom of a waterfall, crews at the command post told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News. They said ground crews were on their way to reach her.Swiftwater rescue crews, a helicopter and scent dogs had been scouring a remote area of Collier County searching for Einhorn who disappeared after a hike last year.Searchers discovered clues left by Einhorn on Thursday, including a handwritten note that read "Die Dan."According to searchers, Einhorn was equipped only for a day hike when she disappeared last weekend near Tampa, Flor.Near the search command post at a trailhead, Einhorn's car still sat on Friday where she left it last weekend. Her overnight pack was in the front seat.On Thursday, searchers found two notes, including one written on her dental insurance card that said "No food, H2O or map. Please help. Headed downstream. EMERGENCY."
SLIDESHOW: Notes, Clues Left By Missing CamperAnother scribbled note indicated she had nothing but berries to eat and no way to treat water. Einhorn's grocery store discount card was also found."It means she had enough sense to mark the trail up to that point where she was going, which gives us something to follow," said Oak Rankin, a searcher. There was no telling on Einhorn's pre-existing condition.
